HOPE, Love & Kindness
Just Listening to You Wonderful Wednesday is a powerful place to be, it doesn’t provide answers, but it does provide HOPE, Love, safety & Kindness.
It is an intoxicating atmosphere filled with love and kindness; electric and contagious. You can feel every ounce of energy, passion, hope and enthusiasm from the members of the church.
Greeted by the lovely Abi, smiling brightly and broadly, I felt good … but then I received a bonus hug. Wow felt so much better. Thanks Abi.
A tip: Hugs for 30 seconds releases serotonin in your brain, a natural way to help you remain happy.
The atmosphere is calm and happy. The gifted team make every client feel at home, and the process is certainly dignified.
It is not just about the food, but relationships with the client. The client is always offered a drink, food and conversation.
I met another group of volunteers this week, working their team brilliance skills. I met with Rita, Susan, Fran, Mooneed, John, Ros; lovely wonderful people, filled with love and kindness with will give the clients hope.
Each week another set of volunteers step into the breach and their team is born. With the determination to succeed, the Crowstone foodbank runs smoothly and provides an essential service to the community.
With a steady continual rota, foodbank is always covered. It is so important in today’s society of homelessness and general all round austerity.
Some families simply cannot afford food for their families and they loose any thought of hope for change.
It is common for adults to sacrifice their meal for the children; the child may still be hungry, as portions may be limited. The adult is hungry, possibly a single parent or married, but actually does this matter?
The client will be getting more and more depressed by the pressure of living a tough life and not being able to provide.
This must cause a huge amount of anxiety and stress, which ultimately leads to poor mental health.
They can see no light in the future, however, at Crowstone, the client are provided with the essential tools which will enable them to find Hope, Happiness, Love, Dignity and most importantly independence.
Perhaps they see the light at the end of the tunnel when they leave the church and find hope amongst all the self made chaos.
Time is the most precious commodity of all; spend time with another and you will demonstrate how important they are to you. Share the love and show them how much you care.
Who knows, when life gets good for them, they may be able to “Pay it Forward” or volunteer for you or another organisation. Now there’s HOPE.
The foodbank process must inspire the clients, it certainly inspires me.
I had a lovely time, watching the team in situ, listening to them laugh and watching them greet clients. A humbling experience for me.
I brought in a few minor bits and pieces for the foodbank project, Melanie popped food items into the trolley and the sanitary items are popped into a special red box. Why?
Well they are a luxury item, thanks to George Osbourne. Sanitary products cost a small fortune, ladies who are poor or living in squalid conditions cannot afford these luxuries.
My fiend Helen McDonald created a group called Supporting Sisters, I have detailed just one of her projects below.
Helen places a red bucket with someone or somewhere and our job or yours, is to encourage people to buy sanitary products that they would like to donate to the cause.
I know money is short this time of year, in fact, all year, so expenses need to be kept to a minimum.
As much as I dislike using the big stores, they sell their own quality brand of pads and tampons, they are extremely cheap. I purchased a pack of 40 for 86 pence.
I am still in shock of feeling so at home in Crowstone; it’s a first for me, I love churches and their history, but I don’t enjoy pomp and ceremony of the practice, I find it slightly frightening. Not now I am with Crowstone and tucked into the wing of Melanie. www.crowstone.org.uk
I spent some time with Melanie and enjoyed a lovely cup of tea, planning out next years’ events to enable Just Listening to You not only to raise funds, but more importantly to make an awareness of ill mental health and make a huge difference. We are excited!
In conclusion, lots of progress being made, friendships blooming and trust established. That is a HUGE and down to the dedication of the volunteers.
Get in touch with me if you would like to volunteer or make a donation.
Please call me if you need any help; I am here ready to listen.
Well … enough said of today’s adventures. Have a good week.
