Essex Business Women’s Experience. Friday October 23rd the Event to attend and not to be missed … the first ever Essex Business Womens Experience and what an adventure it was!
Greeted by many ladies on the registration desk; issued with wrist bands that reminded my friend Maria and me of a festival.
The ladies couldn’t be more helpful. The lovely Linda Elsdon a professional events organise was no doubt responsible for the smooth running of such a busy area with a long queue of excited delegates.
I arrived early with a promise of a goodie bag with an Om Chocolate Bar for the first 49 delegates; couldn’t miss that!
In my bag not only did I find chocolate, I found a Frankincense Anti-Aging Balm, Earthzest Organics No. 1 best-selling product, they have won awards for it! Totally organic and I mean totally! Hand blended and certified cruelty-free by my friend Jackie Callow CEO.
Jackie looked amazing, no need to ask why. She uses the Frankincense balm, the oil known as the ‘oil of kings’. One order please Jackie.
I have used the Earthzest products before and the results were amazing.
My feet earlier in the year were in a dire state, yeah I know … really? Stay with me…
Huge splits and even a hole in my heel; Jackie recommended shea and peppermint foot balm and voila, my feet healed within a short space of time.
It’s easy to order from Jackie www.earthzest.co.uk; you can purchase the products and if you feel so inclined, you can organise a pamper party to be really spoilt. My friend Julia makes you look beautiful with a facial, she’s got years of experience.
So getting back to the goodie bag – a pen – and being a student, I can never have enough pens.
Also BTMK local solicitors popped in a card with a free consultation and 10% off your legal fees. Many years ago I supplied staff to BMTMK, they’re a good organisation, so we need to tuck that discount card away safely. Unfortunately we never know when we might need it.
Enough about the goodie bag, let me tell you about the organisers.
Firstly my dear friend Rosemary Cunningham who believes in heart centred business, she runs Winning Women Essex and is a holistic therapist and coach. In terms of friendship, it can’t be bought, she makes a badass soup and always has wise words waiting for me to hear. Love you Rosemary!
Linda Elsdon a professional events organiser who plans and runs your event on time and within budget. A corporate and local background, Linda had everything under control, a strong influence on the event was evident. Friendship wise she’s wonderful, always has the right motivating words for me, so very kind.
Beccy Mae-Rose locally known as Tigger, she is full of energy, enthusiasm and bounce.
Not only has Beccy been involved in putting the day together, she is the Founder of Realising Every Dream and responsible for bringing some amazing speakers to Southend and inspiring many individuals with unresolved dreams.
My friend is a wonderful human being, she has two amazing girls who I love spending time with and is huge fun!
A special guest in Sir David Ames MP, alongside Linda Elsdon and Rosemary Cunningham, Sir David opened the event. Proud of Southend West, proud of the women in business and living with three women in his household Sir David said “women can manage stress so much better than men,” this you can imagine received a rapturous applause.
I had the opportunity to speak to Sir David, I asked him how it was going, and he mentioned that he tries his very best, “if you go home feeling like you have achieved that every day, you can do no more,” I said. He agreed and I let him on his way.
Something I did notice about Sir David was his empathy, I was using my quad mobility thing, he didn’t assume I couldn’t walk, talk or move; he wasn’t patronising and I found him to be very genuine and tactile.
I couldn’t see my friend Beccy as she was moving so quickly keeping everyone happy and everything moving, I barely made eye contact with her, but I hasten to add she had a smile for me on every occasion our eyes met!
So who was there today? The Party Kitch, SLR Investment Consultant, Cinnamon & Sugar, Organo Gold, Forever Living, Organisation for Responsible Business, RBS – Future Williams & Glyn, Superfast Essex, Accounting IT Limited, Ava-Peter Clinic, BTMK Solicitors, Reflect Design for Print, Park Inn Palace, WIBN, Essex Innovation Programme, World of Braiding, Dawn Lister Therapy Centre, Earthzest Organics, Taking Shape, Leanne Perrilly, Lolo Photography Studios, Space282 and Leigh on Sea dot com; believe it or not this list is only the Ground Floor!
First Floor consisted of Feng Shui, Natalie’s Personal Training & Bootcamp, Tiny Sparkles Parties, Public Speaking Demystified, Jan Cheswright – Hypnotherapist & Life Coach, Colour Worx, Nanny Time, Journeying Soul, Harriet Stack – Mind Calm Meditation Coach, Rejuvenating Hands. Doterra, Yoga & Therapies for Adults, Children & Special Needs, Utility Warehouse, Lazy Spanish Learning, Made You Look Flowers, Truly Chocolates, Pledge2sparkle Cleaning, Travel Counsellors, Hair by Nikita and Made by Plumb.
The event wouldn’t be complete without a Chill Out Zone, treatments carried out by A Complete Massage, Bowen Therapy, Tracey Richards – Reflexology, Namaste Reiki & Counselling, Body Talk and Kathy Bartram – Reflexology Technique.
Wow – how on earth am I getting around all of this? A great problem to have.
Maria and I got our priorities right and started the day with a cup of tea in the cafe and I took my medication once remembered, as you know, my memory is awful. The staff in the tea room were lovely. Also I was keen to show off my very beautiful friend Bronwyn Oldham, she wasn’t there but her artwork was, it’s her Gold Series and all very affordable.
Essex Ladies that do tea. Maria Toner & Me
Recovering from a long-term illness I moved around slowly with my mobility quad, getting the chance to catch up with fabulous friends.
The first lady I had the chance to speak to was Kay Howell, an amazing friend of mine, mother to the wonderful Henry, ex-nurse, now running her Utility Warehouse Business. She’s genuine, good at what she does and if you are looking for cheaper bills and making some money when you shop, Kay’s the lady.
It was great to see Kay, only last month we had a cuppa and a chat, and was searching the garden for shells with Henry, then Henry and I sat in the wood cabin imagining it was our secret hiding place.
Kay perhaps you could put your contact details at the bottom of the blog and call me to arrange a get-together with the stunning Henry.
Love you Kay and Henry. Anyway, I digress …
Greeted by my amazing friend Jan Cheswright, Life Coach and Hypnotherapist. I have had a tough time of late, Jan constantly encourages me to push on with my plans and complete my studies.
It’s a strange thing, when I have a tough time, I generally receive a message from Jan, some sort of spiritual link there? Perhaps you can answer that one Jan.
Anyway Jan is an awesome life coach, I certainly recommend.
My friend Sarah Arrow grabbed me as I crept by with my mobility frame, “where are you creeping off to? Come back here.” Delighted to see her and have a warm hug.
I attended a workshop by Stella Phillips who talked about ying and yang, nurture and life balance. She runs meditation classes and tipi outings, connecting you with mother earth. Owner of Edesias Banquet, she is a specialist in vegan raw foods.
And … I haven’t seen Stella in an age! Sad Face!
Delegates were invited to taste her raw chocolate, “savour it” she said, and I did, another delegate laughed as she swallowed! I let mine melt on my tongue and, oh my, it was amazing, it certainly hit the spot.
Before we left, we were invited to rub oil into our hands and enjoy the fragrance; I rubbed it on my neck, I can’t explain how good it felt. I need to order some please Stella.
I popped into Beccy Mae-Rose’s workshop, making business planning fun and easy. It was certainly enlightening and the delegates kept her on her toes with many questions. Beccy in her usual cool and steady manner answered one question at a time and inspired many.
I waved at a few friends as they were clearly busy with potential clients, Jill Poet, Harriet Balcombe, Manuela Mckay, Julia Hemmings, Helen Musso and Donna Puffett. Yes I saw you!
I got to see Rosemary a number of times, I was surprised and it is always wonderful to receive a hug from my empathic friend. I feel healed and refreshed somewhat when I see her.
I had a couple of conversations with Hildah my friend and sister from Zambia and leader of Mumba Children’s Charity. We were discussing the chickens and goats … yep, this year instead of gift boxes, we are going ask you to sponsor a chicken or goat for £5.00. Sustainability is what it is about.
Joy from World of Braiding looked amazing as ever, always a pleasure to see her and greets me like a rare treasure. Her daughter Efe always a delight; beautiful, well mannered, and a credit to you Joy.
I guess the most tremendous story of the day I want to share with you is about Sarah and Me.
Some time ago, my friend Beccy Mae-Rose told me about the 30 Day Blogging Challenge, I didn’t have a clue what it was, only that I wanted to rise to the challenge and complete it as a project goal for my group Just Listening to You.
Oh I didn’t tell you, retired due to ill health, I run a support group for anyone affected by mental health issues, I help the carer and the patient.
Anyway, back to the story.
Encouraged by someone called Sarah on the end of an email, I wrote a blog every day for thirty days and I have to say, I enjoyed it that much that I completed the exercise again.
Each day I received an email, teaching me how to design blogs, make them look beautiful and most all increase my audience.
Now little did I know that the Marketer behind the 30 Day Blogging Challenge was none other than Sarah Arrow, but I didn’t know her by that name!
Nineteen years ago, our children in the same school, divorce and health issues separated us for some years… well 19 to be precise!
We simply picked up where we left off, only differences were Sarah was re-married to the lovely Kevin, Jessica her eldest daughter delighted her with a granddaughter, and Sarah had two more fabulous kids!
Blogging certainly reunited us; the power of social media is amazing.
My website www.justlisteningtoyou.com experienced increased readership, people genuinely showed more interest in what I was doing. I self fund the group so interest in Just Listening to You is good, it means I hopefully help more people and maybe, just maybe, someone might want to share their wealth with us and sponsor our group.
So if you want to increase your readership or create a website and blog? Contact Sarah at www.sarkemedia.com
In conclusion …
The day was absolutely exhilarating, so many talented women under one roof working as a team, so much talent to be shared.
I got to relax with friends, tea and cake with my friend Maria Toner who did an excellent job of looking after me, thanks Maria.
A cuppa with my loyal friend Ann Clark not that she stopped for long as everywhere I went, Ann followed with a chore in hand. Such an amazing, energetic and intuitive lady.
I had a chat with Irene Brankin, that was funny, especially when I told her about stroking, (you had to be there) unfortunately Irene hadn’t been well of late, I’m sorry about that, but she is now on the mend.
Two pots of Earl Grey and a cake later, I sat with Sarah Arrow .
Sarah? I simply love her Genuinity, we chatted and shared a slice of cake like old times; and chatted eagerly about family. The subject of Jaffa cakes came up, she loves them so much a member of the crowd brought one with her as a gift.
We had a funny moment when Sarah noticed people stroking me, complete strangers too. I think they were trying to make me feel good … I guess. It must have been the mobility quad. Perhaps it made me look weak, I don’t know.
I have to be honest and say I didn’t much like the stroking, I got to a point where I wanted to bark, but after laughing about it with Irene, Sarah and Maria, I thought I should be on my very best behaviour.
We discussed stickers for my quad. “Be warned though, this bitch bites!”
One more thing, whilst typing this at 8:28PM I am eating Super Crackies, they were given to me at the event and they are good as in gorgeous. Where can I buy?
Final words … my friends Rosemary, Beccy, Linda, you did Essex proud; organising a fabulous show. Presenting a wide range of local talent and professionalism; so many intelligent women under one roof. I lost count how many stands represented the many businesses of Essex, how many people registered, how many seats in the workshops filled and it was chocobloc!
I think I will sleep well tonight, a fun packed, informative day.
